The Canadian Association of Sound Practitioners, CASP, has a newly redesigned website on-line:  www.soundpractitioners.com  For those looking to explore sound there are many wonderful articles, events and a host of sound information and photos posted on the site, including photos from the CASP Launch in June of this year.  For those working with sound in a therapeutic manner, this is a great way to connect up and join with others of like-mind.
 
There are many wonderful ways to celebrate this last month of 2009.  I will be sounding with my friends at some great events happening throughout the city and up in the Barrie area.  Come out and sound, play, dance and drum your way into the New Year!

Are you interested in exploring the vocal world of Classical Indian melodies and rhythms?  Step into this rich musical tradition with vocalist, pianist and percussionist Suba Sankaran.   Suba studied south Indian classical music with master drummer (and father) Trichy Sankaran. She has also studied south Indian classical vocal music with Sankari Krishnan, T. Vishwanathan, K. Subramaniam and N. Ramani. Her percussion training includes teachers such as Glen Velez, Sal Ferreras and Russell Hartenberger. Suba, among a wide range of musical projects, is the vocal imagination of Autorickshaw www.autorickshaw.ca

A Sound Journey Experience “Journey Into Stillness”
Hosted by Ann-Marie Boudreau
Join us for this intimate and personal ‘live surround-sound’ experience!  Created as an evening of relaxation, we’ll be encouraging you to move into a place of stillness inside, a reflection of nature in its hibernation and gestation period.  Doors open at 7:15pm, the Journey starts at 7:30pm sharp! Arrive early to set up your space. Note: doors are locked at 7:45pm so as not to interrupt those journeying. What is a Sound Journey?  For 90 minutes allow yourself to be enfolded by deep healing sounds from acoustic world instruments being played around and over you.  A sound journey can support you as you move into a deepening meditative state while reclining and relaxing.  At times melodic, sometimes dissonant, the soundscape is created utilizing an intimate knowledge of the chakra system, shamanic traditions and the vibrational nature of our bodies to enhance and deepen the meditation experience. Sound Journey Experience in Ottawa
Saturday, November 14th
Recline and relax for 90 minutes while being surrounded by a rich blanket of sound and the soulful vocals of Ann-Marie Boudreau while instruments from traditions around the globe are played around and over you.
Melodic, sometimes dissonant, the sound journey is created utilizing an intimate knowledge of the chakra system, shamanic traditions and the vibrational nature of our bodies to enhance and deepen the experience. Some have considered this live-surround-sound journey as a deep meditation and others a sound massage or a visioning experience.

Wise Woman’s Weekend
September 11, 12 & 13
“We invite women of all ages to join us once again on the shores of beautiful Lake Huron to embrace and celebrate our sacred femininity, our birthright. Through drumming, dancing,and singing, we will celebrate and nurture our minds, our bodies, and our souls as we send thanks and blessings to one another, the Earth, and the Universe.”  This amazing weekend retreat for women will include fun workshops, each given by a woman accomplished in her chosen field. The Healing Oasis will be available for the mind, body, and spirit through reflexology, reiki, massage, as well as other modalities.

“Living Light” celebration featuring Hildegard’s Medieval chants and Labyrinth Walk.
Toronto’s beautiful sacred space, the Church of the Holy Trinity, will be transformed into a Labyrinth to host the music of medieval mystic, Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179). Join us in celebrating Hildegard’s Feast Day featuring a selection of Hildegard’s enigmatic and transformative Medieval chants and poetry arranged for voice, early music instruments and diverse world music instruments.  Early music and world music musicians, Krystina Lewicki (soprano), Mike Franklin (woodwinds, voice), Ann-Marie Boudreau (voice, sitar, ngoni, harp),  William Gekas (voice, violin), Kathleen Gillis (tombak, percussion) and guests Simone Desilets (bass viol) and Silvana Bozzato (tenor viol, voice).  The music, poetry and visions of Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) are being rediscovered as a major inspiration of spiritual connection, creativity in the visual and musical arts, political action, and environmental consciousness.

Energy Grounding Workshop with Denis Chagnon
Trying to shift patterns?  Looking to take your life and life’s work to the next level?  Long-lasting, sustained change can often be challenging.  Denis Chagnon is a healer renowned for developing and teaching a simple technique known for grounding which he developed through his own life and death struggle with cancer. Mainly created as an evening of relaxation, we’ll be encouraging movement in honour of the spring buds which are slowly growing through the earth readying themselves to sprout above the surface soon!  Doors open at 7:15pm, the Journey starts at 7:30pm sharp!
